What is the cost and what is included in a newborn session?

Newborn photography sessions cost $650 (receive $100 off if you have purchased a maternity shoot) , you will receive a minimum of 35 retouched images on USB and print release for personal use. I only offer Newborn “lifestyle” photography sessions and don't use a studio, it's really important that we share the same vision for your Newborn session. I do not offer prints, however I will recommend my favourite printing labs to ensure you get the most out of displaying your images. To secure your booking there is a $200 retainer fee.

What is "lifestyle" newborn photography?

Lifestyle photography is all about storytelling and capturing honesty. When photographing newborns I like to document real and mostly unscripted moments that happen during a photo shoot. If you are after perfectly posed photos with lots of different props and retouching, I may not be the photographer for you. Of course, we will do some gentle posing with your bub and I do digitally enhance all selected photos, however I aim to deliver authentic images that reflect real emotions and scenarios.

When should we get newborn photos taken and how do we know when to book?
You’ve probably heard a general rule about photographing newborns before they are 2 weeks old. This is mostly because they sleep more and are still quite flexible from being inside the womb, both of which help to position newborns in various sleeping poses. There is no complex posing in my style of photography and therefore you can have your newborn shoot much later if you choose to do so.

If you are wanting newborn photos soon after the arrival of your baby/babies I advise that you enquire about your session at least 2 months before your due date, this allows an adequate amount of time for any planning, so you can relax in them final weeks of pregnancy. More often then not we won't know when bub is ready to enter the world and therefore it is impossible to schedule in an exact time/date for a session. I allow for plenty of flexibility with newborn sessions and once I have been notified of your baby's arrival I will book in your session on a mutually agreeable date (usually within 1-7 days).

Where should we have our photos taken?
Earth-side can be a scary new place for your newborns and welcoming a newborn home can be just as scary for Mum and Dad. We will take the stresses away from any unfamiliar places and carry out your photography session in the comfort of your own home or in a quiet outdoor environment. Hospital sessions can also be arranged and carried out appropriate to your circumstances.

For indoor sessions we will make the most of the natural light that enters your home, generally using the nursery, living room, main bedroom and at times the bathroom. If you would prefer an outdoor session, I recommend somewhere that is quiet in the morning or late afternoon.

What should we wear and bring to our session?

It’s important that everyone feels comfortable in what they wear, keep things relaxed and simple. Please avoid distracting logos and printed tee's. I suggest putting your baby's nappy on loosely prior to your photography session commencing, to avoid any redness or marks when/if it is taken off for photos. I will provide some wraps and blankets, however using your own will give your images an extra personal touch.

Newborn sessions can get messy, it’s all part of the fun, please just make sure you have a few outfit changes for everyone encase there’s any accidents.

What time of day do sessions take place and how long to they go for?
Newborn sessions generally take 1.5-3hrs, this is to ensure things are not rushed and hopefully we can encourage some sleep and awake time.

I'm a natural light photographer and typically I will always try to book my outdoor sessions near sunrise or sunset to take advantage of the light and pretty skies, of course we can make an exception if we need to. Indoor sessions can take place at any time of day provided there is enough light inside.

What if someone falls sick on shoot day or the weather is awful?
We want everyone to be their happiest and healthiest. If someone falls sick your retainer fee is transferable to a later date and we will reschedule. We definitely don’t want to take your new baby out in bad weather, we can relocate to co-ordinate an in home photography session or if you have your heart set on an outdoor session we will reschedule to a mutually agreeable date.
